SEEKING TWO COHORTS OF THREE ARTISTS
JULY + AUGUST 2026 RESIDENCY
Deadline to Apply: Oct. 1, 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
Artists must apply as a group of three*
Residency Dates:
July 2026: Thurs. July 2 - 30, 2026
August 2026: Sun. August 2 - 31, 2026
Eligibility:
Annandale Artist Residency (AAR) is seeking two cohorts of three Canadian, mid-career visual artists to attend the residency in Prince Edward Island for July and August 2026. See exact dates above.
We are selecting a total of six artists (two groups of three). Applicants must apply as a group of three* and let us know their preference for either July or August, or if they able to attend either month. Please only apply if you can attend the full 5-weeks.
* Exceptions may include collaborative duos or artist couples that can share a studio as well as a bedroom (which would enable up to four artists in attendance). Other exceptions may include children and supporting family members. Please contact us to chat if you have any questions about eligibility. A minimum of two visual artists must be in each cohort.
All applicants must have up-to-date driver’s licenses and be comfortable driving. AAR is quite remote, and driving is imperative for food, supplies, etc. The closest town is Souris, a 20-minute drive, which will have all the essentials available. A car is provided to residents to share while in attendance.
Please note AAR’s ventilation system consists of opening windows. AAR is currently best suited for practices that don’t utilize toxic materials, or the use of power tools. Studios are equipped with folding tables, stools, chairs, basin/slop-sinks, rolling carts, adjustable desk, fluorescent lights, dehumidifiers, and magnetic walls that can be used for partitions.
AAR is housed in a renovated historic home consisting of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sunroom, kitchen, and two large studio spaces that can be split between three or four artists. The studio spaces are shared, open-concept spaces, plus a bonus shared sunroom.
Costs:
AAR does not charge an attendance fee.
Successful participants will have to cover costs associated with their travel, supplies, meals, etc. AAR will provide a confirmation letter artists may use to apply for grants to cover these costs. The AAR house is stocked with the essentials, including bed linens, towels, kitchen essentials, etc.
We ask that residents provide a $500 post-dated cheque as a security deposit, which will only be cashed in case of damage to the vehicle or residency property.
For residents using the AAR van, we asked for a non-refundable fee of $300 to cover insurance and a deep clean at the end of the season. Fuel for the van is the responsibility of the residents.
Expectations:
This is a self-directed residency for artists to use however they see fit.
We ask all attending artists to leave/donate one small artwork/drawing/sketch to be added to our growing AAR collection.
As a way to connect with PEI arts and local communities, an Open House will be scheduled the last week of each residency. We ask that each resident speak briefly about their work—light libations will also be served!
Most importantly, we hope each cohort of artists have the opportunity to enjoy the many beaches, trails, and sunsets that PEI has to offer! An abundance of bug spray is recommended.
