CALL FOR SUBMISSION

SEEKING INDIVIDUAL ARTIST APPLICATION FOR JUNE 2026

Deadline to Apply: Feb. 1, 2026

Residency Dates: May 29 - Jun. 29, 2026

Eligibility + Details:

Annandale Artist Residency (AAR) is seeking one Canadian mid-career visual artist to attend the residency in Prince Edward Island for June 2026. This Call for Applications is to fill a recently opened spot. Please apply only if you can attend the full 5 weeks.

All applicants must have up-to-date driver’s licenses and be comfortable driving. AAR is quite remote, and driving is imperative for food, supplies, etc. The closest town is Souris, a 20-minute drive, which will have all the essentials available. A car is provided to residents to share while in attendance.

Please note AAR’s ventilation system consists of opening windows. AAR is currently best suited for practices that don’t use toxic materials or power tools. Studios are equipped with folding tables, stools, chairs, basin/sink, rolling carts, adjustable desk, fluorescent lights, dehumidifiers, and magnetic walls that can be used for partitions.

AAR is housed in a renovated historic home with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sunroom, a kitchen, and two large studio spaces that can be split among three or four artists. The studio spaces are shared, open-concept spaces, plus a bonus shared sunroom.

Costs:

AAR does not charge an attendance fee.

Successful participants will have to cover the costs of their travel, supplies, and meals, etc. AAR will provide a confirmation letter that artists may use to apply for grants to cover these costs. The AAR house is stocked with the essentials, including bed linens, towels, kitchen essentials, etc.

We ask that residents provide a $500 post-dated cheque as a security deposit, which will only be cashed in case of damage to the vehicle or residency property.

For residents using the AAR van, we asked for a non-refundable fee of $300 to cover insurance and a deep clean at the end of the season. Fuel for the van is the residents' responsibility.

Expectations:

This is a self-directed residency for artists to use however they see fit.

We ask all attending artists to leave/donate one small artwork/drawing/sketch to be added to our growing AAR collection.

As a way to connect with PEI arts and local communities, an Open House is scheduled for Jun. 28. We ask that each resident attend and speak briefly about their work—light libations will also be served!

Most importantly, we hope each cohort of artists has the opportunity to enjoy the many beaches, trails, and sunsets that PEI offers! An abundance of bug spray is recommended.
