ARRIVAL + AAR CAR + DEPOSITS

ARRIVAL + departure

An AAR representative will contact you prior to your residency to confirm your transportation method and plan.

Please plan to arrive on first day indicated, and leave by 12:00 noon on the last day indicated. Please refer to the departure page for details and your departure check-list.

To the best of our ability, we will have an AAR rep meet you upon arrival. If not, a lock-box with a key will be available to let yourself in. Prior to your residency we will put you in touch with your fellow residents to exchange contact information and coordinate travel when possible.

DAMAGE DEPOSIT

We ask that you bring a $500 damage deposit cheque with you to the residency. This will only be cashed if you substantially damage the house or furniture.

USING THE AAR CAR + DEPOSIT

Importantly, we do require all residents to have up-to-date driver's licenses. AAR is self-directed residency located in a remote community, and residents will need to be self-sufficient for food, supplies, and necessities.

AAR provides a residency vehicle, a SUV (Ford Edge) for shared use. The SUV is a 2024 model and is equipped with seats for 5. We ask for a small, non-refundable fee of $300 to cover insurance costs and deep cleaning at the end of the season. This amount should be sent via etransfer prior to your arrival. If you are driving your own car, you do not need to pay the fee.

Residents who plan to use the AAR vehicle will also be asked to provide documentation to be properly insured to use the AAR vehicle. Full details on requested information can be found here.

The SUV will be parked out front upon arrival. Please make sure you have emailed our team a valid driver’s license prior to use. We ask that you coordinate with fellow residents to come up with a schedule for usage, and carpool for groceries and essentials when applicable. Please do not take the vehicle overnight, or out of province. After use, please fill up the gas tank for other residents, and at the end of the month. Importantly, we also ask that you vacuum the van for us at the end of your stay.

Airport Pick Up + FLYING

Please let us know if you will be flying into Charlottetown. When available, we will do our best to coordinate each cohort and pick you up or drop you off at the airport. We ask that you plan to arrange cab unless previously discussed with us. A cab from the airport takes approximately 60 minutes and costs $100 - $160. You can find a list of PEI cab companies here. Please note AAR does not reimburse for travel costs.

Please check restrictions (with your booking airline) in regards to travelling with particular art supplies including solvents and film.

Driving

If you are driving to the residency, please plan to arrive in daylight, as the property can be difficult to navigate in the dark. There is ample parking beside the house. We highly recommend driving and carpooling when possible, as the route is scenic, and you will be equipped with your own vehicle for your stay with us.
